How to get the most out of your chiropractic adjustments
After you finish your session with your chiropractor, you probably feel so good you want to know how to make that feeling last for a few more days. You could be fighting against the forces outside your body to stay in alignment, but here there are some things you definitely could be doing to help your chiropractic adjustment last longer.
Walking
Go on a walk after your adjustment. Doing so will allow your body to get accustomed to its new state, thereby causing the benefits of your adjustment to last longer than they would otherwise!
Drink Water
Drinking water helps to remove toxins from your body and keeps your joints and spinal discs lubricated and supple. Make sure you’re keeping hydrated throughout the day. Every day you lose water through your breath, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water. You should be consuming at least 15.5 cups (3.7 litres) of water for men and 11.5 cups (2.7 litres) of water a day for women. Read more
Sleep Right
You should be sleeping on your side or your back every night. You also need a pillow that helps to support your neck and hips. Therapeutic pillows are designed to support your neck. They can help you stay aligned and also remove some of the stress from your spine and other joints. Strategically placed pillows between your knees and behind your neck can help to keep your spine in alignment and helps to remove some of the stress and strain off your spine and other joints. If you have a proper therapeutic pillow, properly supportive mattress, and sleep in a position that is healthy for your spine, then you will wake up in the morning feeling great. (*Tip: Ask your practitioner during your next consult how sleeping on one of our adjustable therapeutic pillows can change your sleeping habits!)
Massage
A tight muscle can pull your spine out of alignment, therefore it is important to integrate massage into your routine. Releasing muscle tension eases discomfort and helps to keep your body moving properly. Combining Massage and Chiropractic care can increase your care program’s effectiveness.

- Which should I do first, chiropractic or massage?
Chiropractors and Massage therapists generally agree that your adjustment and massage should be scheduled as closely together wherever practical. Consult your Chiropractor to determine his or her preferred order. Whatever the order, the two therapies will build on each other over time to resolve problems and support your general good health.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists can provide exercise, therapy, education and advice for patients looking for more interactive care. Physiotherapists use a wide range of methods to help patients restore and maintain mobility, including massage, taping and hands-on joint mobilisation.
Chiropractic and Physiotherapy are compatible holistic therapies that share the goal of your total well-being, not simply an absence of illness. Both offer natural, hands-on, drug-free techniques. They can be used as preventive as well as restorative therapies. Both work to resolve the cause of your pain rather than treat isolated symptoms. Used in combination, they can help you maintain your optimum health and enjoy life to the fullest. Read more
Yoga
Yoga stretches help to relax and strengthen the body, leading to better alignment, increased flexibility, and improved posture.
When yoga is practiced with consistency, it tones the body and prepares it to experience deep levels of healing by stretching out restricted muscles and releasing long-held tensions. If yoga is practised before visiting the chiropractor, the body is primed to receive the benefits of chiropractic treatment much more efficiently than a body that is holding a lot of effects from the stresses of the day. Yoga brings the vital energy of the body’s various systems into a balance so that chiropractic treatments can more easily direct that energy towards the body’s intrinsic self-healing processes.
