Melissa Lewis

Melissa Lewis

Melissa started her self-healing journey back in 2012 after having her second ‘unexplained’ ectopic pregnancy and both of her fallopian tubes removed. She began to question her medical diagnosis of ‘unexplained’ when there was clearly an underlying health issue/imbalance. She was further challenged with fertility complications which led her to IVF for two of her three children. In addition to requiring IVF, she was further diagnosed with Adenomyosis. She was offered medication to minimise Adenomyosis growth and increase fertility outcomes, however feeling hesitant she opted out and began seeing a Naturopath to support her fertility and wellness journey.

With the support of her Naturopath, she was able to minimise her Adenomyosis naturally and conceive both her children through IVF without additional medication. Experiencing first-hand the power of nutritional and herbal medicines across her own fertility journey led her to follow her passion and complete a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy with Distinction (BHSc.Nat).

Five years later, and ready to leap into practice, the universe had a different plan, and she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer (BC), 2 months after her 40th birthday. After much contemplation, she decided to follow the advice of her medical oncologist and underwent conventional treatment but also complemented her journey with her natural health knowledge and expertise.

Today, she is cancer-free and a true advocate for supporting women’s health and wellness. While she will never have a definitive answer as to what led her to the path of BC, looking back her years of hormonal imbalances from an early teen were certainly a contributing factor.

She offers her clients a truly integrative approach to naturopathic medicine, by incorporating modern scientific advances, ancient traditions, and holistic wellness. Her treatment strategies are based on providing her clients with the education and resources to achieve their wellness goals. She believes in a collaborative and client-empowered model of naturopathic medicine and together will create an individualised plan to guide you back to health.

In addition to holding a Bachelor of Health Science Naturopathy, she has also completed a Bachelor of Arts, Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology, and 300hr Yoga Teacher Training Certification.

What does a Naturopath do?

A Naturopathy is a distinct primary health care provider that addresses the root cause of disease and encourages health and healing using natural therapies. These natural therapies are often referred to as “alternative” or “complementary” in relation to the conventional healthcare model. Our team of naturopaths in Adelaide integrate standard medical diagnostics with a broad range of natural therapies.

When should I see a Naturopath?

Virtually anyone with a chronic or acute health condition can benefit from seeing a Naturopath. Naturopaths in Adelaide are trained to evaluate all body systems when evaluating a person’s health issues. Their training includes laboratory diagnostics, physical exam and pharmacology. Treatment considerations also include a wide array of natural therapies. The patient is asked to become an active part of their own healing journey because ultimately, that healing comes from within.
